Dental Cleaning for Dogs and Cats
Regular dental cleanings keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy and prevent the problems that lead to extractions.
A dental cleaning at our clinic includes:
Performed under general anesthesia
Pre-anesthetic exam and bloodwork
Scaling above and below the gumline
Polishing
Full-mouth dental X-rays
A tooth-by-tooth chart
It depends on the size of your pet and what the exam and X-rays find. We give you an estimate before the cleaning and update it if teeth need to come out.
It varies with the tooth and how many need to come out. Extractions are quoted with the cleaning, once X-rays show what is needed.
With modern anesthetics and monitoring, the risk is low for most pets. It depends on your pet’s age and health, so every pet has an exam and bloodwork first and a registered technologist watching them from start to finish.
No. Without anesthesia, only the visible surface of the tooth can be scraped. Cleaning below the gumline, where dental disease starts, and taking X-rays both need a still, pain-free patient.
It varies by pet. Many dogs and cats need a cleaning about once a year, and small breeds and older pets often need one more often. We check your pet’s teeth at every exam and tell you when it’s time.
Bad breath, red or bleeding gums, yellow-brown tartar, drooling, dropping food, chewing on one side or pawing at the mouth. Cats often show nothing at all, which is why we check at every exam.
Because most dental disease is below the gumline, out of sight. X-rays show the roots and bone, so we know which teeth are healthy and which need treatment.
When it can’t be saved: a fractured tooth with the pulp exposed, a tooth loosened by advanced gum disease, a root abscess or resorption. Your pet goes home with pain relief and most are eating normally within a few days.
Yes, and it’s the best thing you can do between cleanings. Use a pet toothpaste, never a human one, and start slowly. We’re happy to show you how.

Trusted by Pet Owners Across Calgary

Our 2 year old border collie had a dental emergency and this clinic was able to fit us in quickly for a consultation and was also able to book her in for surgery for about 1 week out. The clinic is clean and organized. All the staff we interacted with were professional, welcoming, and kind.

I can't say enough good things about this clinic. They took amazing care of my 10-year-old Husky from the moment we walked in. The staff were incredibly kind, compassionate, and welcoming and we were able to get in quickly, which was much appreciated!
Keziah S.Pet Owner
Fantastic experience at this animal hospital. Our dog is quite anxious and we wanted to avoid overnight hospitalization for pancreatitis and they went above and beyond to accommodate. We even got a to-go package for an upcoming camping trip. We will be switching to this clinic for ongoing care for our dog.
