Vet Checkups for Dogs and Cats in Calgary
Panorama Hills Animal Hospital provides wellness exams for dogs and cats in Calgary. Each exam is a complete physical by one of our veterinarians, whether it is a puppy’s or kitten’s first visit, an annual checkup or a senior pet’s exam. Walk-ins and same-day appointments are welcome, and we are accepting new clients.
Call NowWhat’s Included in Our Vet Wellness Exams
Every wellness exam is a head-to-tail physical by one of our veterinarians. The veterinarian checks your pet’s:
- Eyes, ears, teeth and gums for infection and dental disease
- Heart and lungs for murmurs and breathing problems
- Abdomen for pain, swelling and masses
- Skin and coat for lumps, parasites and allergies
- Joints and weight for stiffness and changes since the last visit
The veterinarian also goes over vaccines, parasite prevention and diet, and recommends bloodwork when it is appropriate for the pet’s age.
Any questions you have about your pet’s health are answered at the same visit, and at the end of the exam the veterinarian explains what they found and what, if anything, needs follow-up.
Dog & Puppy Wellness Exams in Calgary
We provide veterinary wellness exams for dogs of every age.
Puppy Wellness Exams
A puppy’s first exam is usually at 8 weeks, with checkups at each vaccine visit until about 16 weeks. The veterinarian checks growth and weight, teeth and bite, heart, eyes and ears, and looks for parasites.
Vaccines and deworming are started or continued at the same visit, and we go over feeding, house training and spay or neuter timing.
Annual Checkups for Adult Dogs
Adult dogs should have a wellness exam once a year. The veterinarian checks weight, teeth, heart, joints and skin, and compares everything to the previous visit so small changes are caught early.
Booster vaccines, parasite prevention and diet are reviewed at the same appointment.
Senior Dog Exams
Dogs are considered senior at about seven years, earlier for large breeds. From then on we recommend a wellness exam every six months, because age-related conditions such as arthritis, kidney and heart disease, dental disease and new lumps or masses can develop quickly within a year.
A senior exam includes the full physical, with close attention to joints, weight and mobility, and bloodwork and a urine test to check organ function.
The veterinarian goes over any changes you have noticed at home, from drinking more water to slowing down on walks, and adjusts diet, pain management or medication as needed.

We provide veterinary wellness exams for cats of every age.
Kitten Wellness Exams
A kitten’s first exam is usually at 8 weeks, with checkups at each vaccine visit until about 16 weeks. The veterinarian checks growth and weight, teeth and bite, heart, eyes and ears, and looks for fleas, ear mites and intestinal parasites, which are common in kittens.
Vaccines and deworming are started or continued at the same visit.
We also recommend testing for feline leukemia and FIV at the first visit, and go over feeding, litter habits and spay or neuter timing.
Annual Checkups for Adult Cats
Adult cats should have a wellness exam once a year. The veterinarian checks weight, teeth, heart, kidneys and skin, and compares everything to the previous visit so small changes are caught early.
Cats hide illness well, so the yearly exam often picks up what a cat has shown no sign of at home.
Booster vaccines, parasite prevention and diet are reviewed at the same appointment, including indoor cats, which still need core vaccines and a yearly exam.
Senior Cat Exams
Cats are considered senior at about ten years, and we recommend a wellness exam every six months from then on. Kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure and arthritis are common at this age and often show no obvious signs until they are advanced.
A senior exam includes the full physical, with close attention to weight, teeth and joints, along with bloodwork, a urine test and a blood pressure check.
The veterinarian goes over any changes at home, such as weight loss, drinking more water or jumping less, and adjusts diet or medication as needed.

Call NowDog & Cat Checkup FAQs
How much does a vet checkup cost at your clinic?
The exam fee covers the full physical and the veterinarian’s time, and it is the same for dogs and cats. Any vaccines or tests are extra and always discussed with you first. Call us for a quote.
How often does my dog or cat need a wellness exam?
Once a year for healthy adult dogs and cats. Puppies and kittens are seen at each vaccine visit until about 16 weeks, and senior pets every six months.
When should a puppy or kitten have its first vet visit?
At about 8 weeks, or within the first week of coming home if the pet is older than that. Bring any records from the breeder, shelter or previous clinic.
What should I bring to a wellness exam?
- Any previous medical or vaccine records
- The name of the food the pet eats
- A list of any medications or supplements
- A fresh stool sample, if a parasite check is due
Dogs should be on a leash and cats in a carrier.
Can vaccines be given at the same visit?
Yes. Vaccines, deworming and parasite prevention are usually done during the wellness exam, so one visit covers everything the pet is due for.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes. New clients are always welcome, and a wellness exam is the usual first visit. Bring any records from the pet’s previous clinic.
Do you take walk-ins for checkups?
Yes. You can walk in for a wellness exam during opening hours, or call to book a same-day appointment.
